Your folio is VITAL to getting work.
I hold a Diploma in Makeup and various certificates from my time in Hollywood as well as here in Australia - in 20 years of working, not one of my bookings ever asked to see my certificates (EVER!)
PURPOSE OF THESE SHOOTS:
- The ability to beautifully showcase your work to brides and women wanting to book you for special occasions
- Clearly demonstrate you are a talented professional
- That you have real experience
- Allow you to charge clients what you are worth
Having stunning shots of your work significantly helps you to get bookings, especially when you’ve just finished your course and don’t have any photos of your work that will sell you successfully as a great makeup artist and get you under way!
Students straight out of any makeup course would not normally have access to the upper levels of the industry to build their portfolio.

Folio Building Day you will learn:
The process of a shoot:
- How to follow a brief and collaborate with a team
- How to design makeups according to the mood board
- Having a ‘back up’ plan if things go wrong
- Work to tight schedules effectively, become a valuable team member
- Etiquette and professionalism on set - What products and tools you need on set - Knowing the hierarchy of a set and how to work with them
Makeup application:
- Executing makeup that top photographers (both in Fashion as well as Bridal) look for in a great makeup artist
- Learn how the makeup works with lighting and cameras
- How to incorporate fashion details into your makeup designs
Your Folio will show:
- Potential clients you have experience at a professional level
- Experience working with some of the industry’s best models & photographers
- You are clearly a respected Makeup Artist
- Possible publication in respected & recognised magazines & blogs
- Quality of folio to justify your pricing as a true dedicated makeup artist
- Invaluable experience as a Makeup Artist on what it’s really like to work on a full professional shoot with industry greats
