About Joanna Blair

Big breath in & taking a leap of faith….

MY BACKGROUND:

When I first contemplated enrolling in a professional makeup course, I could relate to the uncertainty and anxiety you might be feeling right now. I was a Registered Nurse with absolutely no background in makeup, nervously stepping into the unknown. Anxious about whether I could actually be successful, and worried about spending money on a course and then getting nowhere afterwards.

Fast forward to today, having been trained by some of the industry's finest in Australia and Hollywood – my journey has been nothing short of transformative.

I’ve had such a rewarding career spanning 24 years, that continues to not only bring me immense joy every day, but early on also gave me the freedom to control my hours and income.

Where it all began:

My career in makeup began back in the Year 2000 when I was fortunate enough to be personally selected and trained by Oscar winning Makeup Artist – Mr Peter Frampton (Oscar for Best Makeup for Mel Gibson’s film ‘Braveheart’) - even though I had no experience in makeup whatsoever.

Since then I have gone on to train further in Hollywood, USA (with Emmy Award winner Marvin Westmore - the Westmore Family are very well known Makeup Artists in motion pictures and have been honoured with a star on the Walk of Fame!).

I’ve also had training with industry greats including:

* Rae Morris (one of Australia’s top Editorial Makeup Artists)
* Gregory Arlt (clients include Gwen Stefani, Katy Perry, Victoria Beckham, Mary J. Blige)
* Ben Moir - Hair and Makeup for stage production Priscilla Queen of the Desert

I have consistently worked across:

Bridal makeup:
Being the preferred makeup artist for luxury Melbourne wedding venue ‘Stones of the Yarra Valley’, and on the Concierge list Crown Casino for interstate and international guests.

Fashion:
Working with photographers such as Fashion Photographer of the Year x 4 – Peter Coulson.

Film:
Key Makeup Artist for films including “All the Kings Horses”, “Rooms for Rent”
and “Una Passione Adatta”

Paramedical (camouflage):
Covering burns, bruising, scars, pigmentation, vitiligo, rosacea, tattoos – any manner of skin disorders (I am recommended by Dermatologist - Professor Rosemary Nixon and Plastic Surgeon – Professor Michael Leung).

IF YOU’RE CURRENTLY FEELING:

- What if I can’t do it?
- What if I’m hopeless, even after finishing my course?
- What if I’ve spent all this money and don’t get any work?
- Have I got what it takes to be successful?
- Am I kidding myself?
- Should I just stay in my current job (it’s ‘safe’ after all)

**This is exactly what I mentally went through in the beginning!!

IF YOU’RE LOOKING FOR:

1) To be creative; have a creative outlet.

2) To help women look and feel their most beautiful.

3) Have a job that is satisfying to your soul and having clients who love your work.

4) To find a course that will train you properly and give you the best chance of success and achieve your goals..

THEN YOU’RE IN THE RIGHT PLACE!!

Welcome to my School – myself and my team can’t wait to take you by the hand and get you to where you want to be!

Embarking on a career in professional makeup and / or hairstyling can be both thrilling and daunting, especially if you're stepping into this world for the first time.

The fear of the unknown, the anxiety about perfecting techniques, and the uncertainty of navigating a makeup or hairstyling career without prior experience can be overwhelming – this is exactly where I was and how I felt starting out 24 years ago.

Joining my school means embracing a transformative journey where you'll not only learn the art of flawless makeup application, where I will personally take you by the hand and teach you everything I know, but you’ll also gain tonnes of hands-on experience in a supportive, encouraging, and uplifting environment. Where you’ll become truly skilled at something you love and potentially set yourself free from a job you currently may not enjoy anymore (as was the case for me), or have a strong side hustle alongside your current job or family commitments.

Ditto for my hairstyling courses – I have chosen the best hairstylists with not only enormous experience, talent, success, and skill, but equally enormous talent and skill at teaching you in a way that is easy to understand, exciting to grasp and sets you up for success in the real world.

My school is your passport to a fulfilling career (whether you want to have a side hustle, or indeed work full time for yourself), providing the knowledge and guidance you need to fast track your dream profession in makeup and / or hairstyling with assurance, skill, and full support, even long after you graduate.

My passion now: Teaching and working one-on-one with my students
